Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick cooking spray. You can also line the bottom with parchment paper for even easier removal.
In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves. Ensure the spices are evenly distributed throughout the flour mixture.
In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter and granulated sugar together until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the pumpkin puree and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Use a spatula to fold the mixture together gently. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the bread tough. Stop as soon as no more streaks of flour are visible.
Gently fold in three-quarters of the chocolate chips. Reserve the remaining quarter to sprinkle on top of the batter once it is in the pan for a beautiful presentation.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips over the surface. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, carefully transfer the loaf to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing. This helps the structure set and makes it easier to cut clean slices.
