Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour (or oat flour for sensitive stomachs)
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin puree (pure pumpkin, not pie filling)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup natural peanut butter (ensure it is Xylitol-free)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 12 tablespoons water (if dough is too dry)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent the treats from sticking and to ensure even browning.
  2. Step 2: Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, pumpkin puree, and peanut butter until the mixture is smooth and well-combined. Ensure there are no large lumps of peanut butter remaining.
  3. Step 3: Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually stir in the whole wheat flour and cinnamon. Use a sturdy spoon or your hands to mix until a stiff dough forms. If the dough feels too crumbly, add a tablespoon of water at a time until it holds together.
  4. Step 4: Roll and Cut: Lightly flour a clean surface. Roll the dough out to a thickness of about 1/4 inch. Use cookie cutters (bone shapes are a favorite!) to cut out the treats and place them onto the prepared baking sheet. You can place them close together as they do not spread much.
  5. Step 5: Bake and Cool: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the treats are golden brown and firm to the touch. Turn off the oven and let them sit inside for an extra 5-10 minutes if you want them extra crunchy. Remove from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
